Through our Lab, we try to research new innovative materials and production processes. We are pioneers in realizing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) within a fashion context by using alternative materials such as food waste to create unique products that are both zero waste in production and biodegradable when discarded.

All the techniques developed through the lab are innovative contributions to rethinking the general production system in the fashion industry.

Apparel production is resource intensive, and over half of the resources and energy used go in to the fabric. Traditional patterns are cut and sewn from a larger roll of fabric, over a third of which ends up wasted on the cutting room floor. Each product you see in our catalog is made-on-demand, which means once you place the order, we start working to get it to you. It takes time for us to create and send out the product, but making each order on-demand allows us to avoid overproduction. This way we get to take care of you and the planet we all share.

To reduce our fabric waste, we’ve introduced two new products—All-Over Print (AOP) Scrunchies and the AOP Headband. They are small enough to be created from fabric scraps that would otherwise have gone to waste. To the greatest extent possible, our damaged and unclaimed returned products get recycled or donated to local charities.

Our products are a mix of diffrent materials. Fx. cotton collected from sewing factories or discarded clothes and polyester made from recycled PET bottles.

We work closely with our manufacturing and fabric partners to identify high-quality textiles for our items. These fabrics are composed of materials designed to provide unique characteristics, ensuring uncompromising attention to detail and the best possible performance.

The better the quality, the longer the product lasts. Before we add new products, we do durability tests to make sure they’ll stand the test of time. We work with suppliers that produce high-quality products that last many washes, keeping print colors vibrant and the fabric soft.

To make our product sourcing more transparent, we've added a Source tab to every product in our catalog, which tells you about each item's manufacturer and country of origin. To verify material content, we collect valid certificates from our suppliers. As proof of the organic composition of the apparel products, we only accept GOTS or OCS certificates. For recycled composition, we accept either GRS or RCS certificates. We only accept the Ecocert COSMOS certificate as proof of the beauty product’s natural origin.

Our products are packed in post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic mailers. The amount of PCR in the packaging will differ depending on where your order is made, but it’s at least 50% for the outside (white or grey) poly mailer bags and at least 30% for the inside (clear) bags used in multi-item shipments.

PCR packaging is made from everyday items, like used plastic bags and bottles. This material protects your order just as well as regular plastic bags, however, choosing PCR over first-use plastics reduces the environmental impact plastic has on our planet.

By doing this, we minimize our environmental impact as recycled materials save virgin resources and require less energy to produce.

Since we want our partnerships to match our values, and to clearly communicate them, we’ve published our own Code of Conduct. It serves as guidance on how Future of Fashion conducts business and outlines the expectations we have for our suppliers and partners.

To make the Code of Conduct specific to our business and universally relevant, we’ve aligned our company values with the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles. In short, our values aim to improve production sustainability, support employees and communities, help combat climate change, and encourage ethical working standards.

At Future of Fashion, we look to work with partners that share these values and commit to being guided by our Code of Conduct.

Our products are fulfilled using various methods, and many of them are printed with the direct-to-garment (DTG) technique, which is a printing method where ink is first sprayed directly onto the garment, and then it soaks into the fabric. We use Kornit printers that generate almost zero wastewater and use less energy than standard industry printers, which lowers our carbon footprint.

The inks we use for printing are Oeko-Tex™ certified, vegan, water-based, and free of harmful chemicals. Future of Fashion takes sustainability seriously, that’s why we take care to properly dispose of any left-over ink according to the ink supplier guidelines. We also embroider our products with Oeko-Tex™ certified threads, meaning they’re safe for both adult and children's clothing. Compared to printing, embroidery is generally more durable and produces less environmental waste.
